Good Eatin’

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

I went to the 15th Annual Safeway BBQ Battle this weekend - yes, that was quite a mouthful (pun intended).  It was a really cool street festival with plenty of free give-aways and dozens of BBQ competitors selling their grub.  David and I found some excellent pulled pork, although he was more interested in the Bratworst.  And there was funnel cake!

Disney Days Part I

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

June 9: My Birthday. Uneventful.
June 10: School Trips!!!  We spent a day in North Carolina, visiting a sister school in Gaston and then touring UNC Chapel Hill.  Which I fell in love with.  So beautiful.  I wouldn’t mind spending five years in Grad School there :)

”The” Disney Shot.  This is my group of girls, just four.  We had 35 kids total.  Some groups joined up but I was on a mission with my girls - maximum rides in minimum time.  We couldn’t have any lagers (in that even a word).  The first day of Disney, the girls learned the meaning of FAST PASS.  we spend the entire day at the Magic Kingdom.

Disney Days Part II

That evening, we gave the kids pool time. Some of the were great swimmers, they passed the “deep end test” given by Miss Smith.  Others, however, were a bit behind.  I went in with them and was immediately beseeched with pleas to teach them how to swim.  Floating on their backs was the number one request.

The second day at Disney we attacked the Animal Kingdom.  I had never been and was truly impressed.  Not just with the living animals (old school 80s Disney had the CHEESIEST electronic animals on Tom Sawyer’s ride) but the roller coasters.  Kids are really funny. One minute they are super psyched to get on, the next they are terrified and want nothing to do with it.  They do this, oh, fifty times before we even get in the freaking line.

Later that day, we hit MGM for Tower of Terror, The Aerosmith Rockin’ Roller Coaster, and the laser light show.

Promotion

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

June 8: The next day was Promotion - and the LAST day of school.  Craziness.  First, my car was broken into.  Yup, I go to the car in the morning and notice that something is amiss.  Wait, I know what - my radio has been ripped out.  My broken radio.  Which wouldn’t be so bad except that the bastards pulled out the A/C wires while they were at it.  And broke the back window to get in (the smaller one).  On an ordinary day I might have gotten it fixed right away, but this was quite possibly one of the busiest days ever.  I arrive at school to find my principal handing me her cell phone, one of her close friends in a principal at an Ohio school that was visiting in DC.  They were traveling back to Ohio that day but had one small problem….they fired their charter bus.  Apparently the driver was a little loco.  So Kristina to the rescue.  I wasn’t able to secure them another bus, that’s close to impossible this time of year (at the last minute) so I booked them tickets on AMTRAK.
The rest of the day flew by until Promotion, which was a great success.

Onwards to Games Day.  This is the Principal’s FAVORITE day of the year, right behind Skate Palace (roller skates people!).  We split the school up into 8 teams and compete in awesome activities like tug-o-war.

Where to Start?

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

It’s been awhile….I’m finally posting because I uploaded my pictures to the computer :)
First, we had the End of the Year Banquet.  All three schools attend and we give out awards, free drinks, and a kick-ass gift.  This year, everyone received digital camera picked out by yours truly.  For that honor, I got to track 70 of them down, fight with Best Buy about tax exemption, and wrap the bitches.

Cary, Kendra, and Kate.

Jen and I (we had to cut Kandace out of the shot…she wasn’t looking too happy.)
