Holiday….Celebrate…

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

On the last day of class before break, I gave all the kids their gifts - everyone received a pack of Colored Pencils and about 30 kids received gift packages of art supplies. Later that day we took everyone skating - roller skating people! It was a lot of fun and I think the kids had a terrific time.

The Graduate

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Since I won’t be around next week, I’m on vacation in Florida, Toby graduated from his PetSmart obedience class a week early.  We had to go into the center of class and show off his command of the commands he learned :)  He did an excellent Sit, Lay Down, Stay, and Wait.

I’ve never been so proud in my life.

Here he is in his “Cap and Gown.”

I tried really hard to get a nice picture of him with Maggie, the other little Corgi in our class.  If I hadn’t of been talked into getting Toby snipped, he would sooo be getting it on with her right now, haha.

Success!!

Today was the deadline for OPERATION: CRAYOLA and I am happy to report that we have reached our goal….and beyond!  Thanks to some generous last-minute donations, not only do we have enough money to buy all the childen Colored Pencils, but there is enough left over to create Gift Baskets for specific children with a love of art.

I’m not giving them the presents until next Friday, the last day before Break, so if anyone would like to make any additional contributions, please know that they will be going to a great cause.  I can’t wait to see their faces when they see what we’ve done for them.  I will be sure to post pictures next Friday so you can truly see the difference you have made.

I’m so proud of everyone :)

Bible Study

My office manager has two girls in high school (they both went to KEY for middle school).  She also has an 8 year old boy.  She was complaining this morning about how their grades are not up to par.  Apparently, they are playing on the computers all night when they should be doing their homework.

If come February, they don’t get their report cards straight, I’m gonna beat them like Hebrew slaves.  Don’t even bother coming home - cause it’s on.  I’m not playing games no more, uh huh, they’re gonna get a beat down.

I of course, being sympathetic, burst into laughter.  It was the funniest thing I’d heard all day.

TAXI!

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

I’m spoiled.

Or at least I used to be, before moving here.

Finding a taxi in Boston was like finding a drunk girl at a frat house - abundant, with a wide variety of choices.  I could step out onto the street and a dozen cabs would drive by within a minute’s time.  I could call a taxi and get the same results.

Finding a taxi in DC is like finding a Nascar fan with a waxed back - slim chance in hell, unless Dale Jr. starts doing spa commericals.  You have to wait in the street forever and when you finally track one down, they use any excuse not to take you.  Going a mile?  Not far enough.  Going out of District lines?  Too far.  Going to Wal-Mart?  They don’t believe in big business.  Seriously, they will use any excuse not to let you in that cab.  And forget calling them, they never answer.

Sorry, got annoyed trying to call a cab for one of our VIP visitors - I was on hold forever.  I asked them to give me a call when the cab was on its way.  I got this weird recording when my phone rang - ”This is a call from the TAXI COMPANY.  Your cab will arrive in U MINUTES.”  Yes, it said “U.”  I repeated the message.  I thought they might have meant 2, but it just isn’t possible.  My principal, being the genius that she is, thinks that U stands for “Unknown.”  Very helpful, TAXI COMPANY.

OPERATION CRAYOLA UPDATE!

Monday, December 4th, 2006

I’m so overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity - to date, we have collected 261 packs of colored pencils!!!

Our goal is 325, so we only have a little over 50 to go!

Please keep spreading the word.  You all kick-ass.
