KIPP
Tuesday, June 13th, 2006I’m moving to DC.
It’s been four years, but I am finally moving South. And while I couldn’t bring myself to go all the way into the depths of Humidity Hell (i.e . Florida), I think I’ve found a nice compromise. There are seasons, a little bit of snow, and a lot of hot weather. I’ve been missing that.
So I’m starting a position at the KIPP: KEY Academy. It is one of three middle schools that is part of a larger organization of charter schools in the US. KIPP stands for “Knowledge is Power Program” and their aim is to…well, let’s hear it from the horse’s mouth instead:
KIPP is a network of free open-enrollment college-preparatory public schools in under-resourced communities throughout the United States. At KIPP, there are no shortcuts: outstanding educators, more time in school, a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum, and a strong culture of achievement and support help our students make significant academic gains and continue to excel in high school and college.
I’m going to be the Operations Associate for the KEY Academy, which is basically a liason between the school and the headquarters (in DC). I will be in charge of all Purchasing, maintaining the website, keeping track of the School Lunch Program/No Child Left Behind/any other program which require anal numbers, producing marketing materials for teacher and student recruitment and various special projects. I’m really excited to be working in a field I enjoy (education) and at an organization I can be proud of. Hell, we were featured on Oprah last month! So…anyways, if you want to read more about it, go to the website.
