lucky girl

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

Nate loves to do things for me - such as cook fabulous meals and buy awesome presents for no reason. I know, I’m a lucky girl. He called me from work on tuesday, super excited, because he had bought me something he *knew* I would love, but he refused to tell me what. Now normally, Nate can’t hold a secret/present for more than 10 minutes. However, this goes up slightly when I’m not there in person (ie, over the phone). So I had to wait (which I hate).

I arrived at the house to the overwhelming smell of “goodness” in the kitchen. I wasn’t allowed to see what was cooking, so I sat on the couch and watched the firefly dvds my co-worker had lent me. I’m hooked.

The meal arrives and looks like this:
Delicious Duck and Pinot Noir!
It’s duck! I have loved duck ever since eating it in Prague (the BEST place for it). And here it was, sitting in front of me. With wine. I love this boy.

So after we were done eating, he finally gives me the gift:
Non-Chinese Necklace!
Pretty! And then we finally get into how he knew I would love it. Because I already have one. See, Tiffany created the original version of this necklace, which I couldn’t afford. So a year ago, I tried to get it on ebay, from China. Big mistake. It was a fake, of course, but more than that, it kept getting tangled. To this day it sits in a heap in my jewelry box. Nate remembered how dissapointed I was about it and decided to get me a functional one. Excellent!

I’m wearing it right now :)

this, that, and the other

Back from Florida - 7 days of sunny goodness, 10 manatees, 2 gators, 5 comics, 2 cancelled flights, 1 broken plane , 1 lost suitcase, 2 brothers, dozens of friends. Good times. Can’t wait to go back.

Here were are at DeLeon Springs looking for manatees in the paddle boats:

Manatee!

It’s snowing really fast outside! I called Bryan to tell him to get his ass outside, and of course he’s already been there and done that. It’s now reached the point where the snow has overloaded tree limbs (at first it just starts stacking up right ontop of them) and is starting to forms lumps on the limbs. Interesting. I wish I had my camera with me.

Lisa asked me what I did this weekend and it took me forever to remember everything, it all came back in little spurts, and kinda backwards. But I watched a football game, when to the dog park twice, took Bryan out on the town, played a few too many card games, drank several too many drinks, and did dim sum yesterday.

And now I’m back to my first five day work week in a long time. And by five days, I really mean four, cause I have wednesdays off! This had me feeling really good until I overhead one of the medical students on the phone “yeah, no classes today, I’m just going to go home and watch tv on the couch.”

Damn, I should’ve stayed in school.

what a difference a year makes

I can’t believe it. Really. Last year at this time we were experiencing the coldest January on record and this year, this year, it’s freaking 45 degrees out. I’m stunned. Just when you think Boston’s down for the count, she’s back for more! Which makes it very ironic that I’m going to Florida this week, because I assumed that this would the coldest time in the city and I’d want to leave. Watch it be 5 degrees when I return, dammit.

Here’s a pic of Lora and I from New Year’s:
